Dr. Sarah Ahmad empowers individuals to overcome mental health concerns that stand in the way of their happiness — to make significant changes for more balanced and satisfying lives. Experienced in a range of mental health issues that affect children and adults, Dr. Ahmad has assessed and diagnosed hundreds of clients with a range of symptoms and concerns throughout her career. Dedicated to improving the quality of her client’s personal relationships and well-being, her cases include working with clients who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment issues, parenting challenges, and assistance in crisis intervention for children.
Click here to read more!A first-generation Pakistani-American, Dr. Ahmad was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and relocated to Southern California to complete her graduate work. She attended California State University for two years in a Masters Program in Psychology and completed her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of La Verne in 2012.
Dr. Ahmad provides counseling and therapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Using a cognitive behavioral framework, she delivers evidence-based practices to multicultural and diverse populations. She assesses and seeks to understand the environmental factors that impact lives. These include the role and influence of family, social settings, culture, community, and society. Dr. Ahmad recognizes that no single treatment approach is right for every individual, consequently, she’s trained in several evidence-based practices — believing in tailored treatment as they key to success.
She understands the sensitivities of working with families and children. While in California, Dr. Ahmad conducted neuropsychological testing for children who presented with a range of psychological concerns. These included; learning disabilities, ADHD, and pervasive developmental disorder.
As her desire to work with children and adolescents continued, she expanded into working with youth in the community, schools, foster care, and forensics. Through the family court system, her experience includes court custody evaluations, child interviews, parent coordination, reunification, and therapeutic supervised visitations, and working with high conflict families.
Certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dr. Ahmad’s trauma cases include, at-risk youth, and adults exposed to transitional and life-threatening situations, as well as ongoing traumatic factors conceptualized as complex trauma. Specifically, she works with active duty military and veterans — providing therapy, psychological testing, compensation and pension assessments for our military members during and post service.
Dr. Ahmad values the importance of improving and strengthening the accessibility of mental health services to all segments of society. To foster growth in the field of psychology, she has mentors and supervises students who are eager to work in the field. As a mental health advocate, she holds leadership roles in the Nevada Psychological Association, and serves on the Executive Board as the CE Committee Chair and NPA President.
Notably, Dr. Ahmad realizes the importance, as well as the benefits of maintaining balance in life. Some of her hobbies include, reading, traveling, dance, watching Ted talks, and above all spending quality time with her family.
