Family Therapy

Strengthening the Family Unit

At Odyssey Wellness, our clinicians understand that emotional and interpersonal problems arise within families and especially following significant life transitions and shifts in family dynamics. In an attempt to draw meaning and make sense of our environments, we can form patterns of social engagement that may not necessarily be helpful. It is important to identify these behavioral and thought patterns and then work towards developing more balanced and effective tools to address challenging life events.

Family Therapy focuses on social behavior, interpersonal skills, and building relationships that strengthen the family unit. It’s an intervention support system that explores issues which create strain within family relationships. Working together we strive to understand how destructive patterns emerge, how they intensify, and how best to work through managing and repairing these concerns.

This therapeutic approach examines the family unit to understand the challenges that affect daily and long-term functioning. By focusing on the present, we promote action towards change to resolve difficulties within these relationships.

We do this by exploring, discussing, and reflecting on the participation and roles of family members; how they respond and relate to one another during sessions and outside sessions.

Family Therapy is a healing practice for families experiencing difficulty, particularly those that include young children and adolescents. Children’s difficulties are best explored in the context of the family.

Family services include:

  • Children and families involved in foster care
  • Family reunification
  • Disruptive behaviors in youth
  • Parenting support

Family Therapy can involve the entire family, extended family, or just certain family members.
